Welcome Being Part of PsychSoc!!!

WHAT PSYCHSOC DID DURING 2010/2011?

  • PSYCH WEEK
PsychSoc T-shirt 2010/2011- "Keep talking, I'm diagnosing you."

All PsychSoc members set up a booth at SA corner to promote the annual event--- Psych Night with a theme "I Choose to Live!" which brings topics of dyslexia and eating disorders. It lasted 3 days and it was not only to promote Psych Night but also create awareness about impacts of eating disorders and concerns to dyslexia among UNMC students.

One of the plays on Psych Night was about the daily life and taunting of a dyslexic. Dyslexia is a specific reading disability due to a defect in the brain's processing of graphic symbols. It is a learning disability that alters the way the brain processes written material.

Another play during Psych Night was about an aneroxic girl seeks emancipation from her controlling mother. Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by markedly reduced appetite or total aversion to food. It is a serious psychological disorder and a condition that goes well beyond out-of-control dieting. The person with anorexia, most often a girl or young woman, initially begins dieting to lose weight. Over time, the weight loss becomes a sign of mastery and control. The drive to become thinner is thought to be secondary to concerns about control and fears relating to one's body. The individual continues the endless cycle of restrictive eating, often to a point close to starvation. This becomes an obsession and is similar to an addiction to a drug. Anorexia can be life-threatening. Also called anorexia nervosa.

There was a fashion show on Psych Night as well and it brings the theme of " Confidence is Sexy". It's objectives were telling people that appearance doesn't mean everything but own's confidence can show his or her charms.

Refreshments were provided after the event.

The success of Psych Night mostly thanks to the PsychSoc committee members and those who participated!!!
